My name is Bob Carver and I have been teaching guitar at Gordon's Music and Sound since 1991. I greatly enjoy being a guitar instructor, and teaching the instrument is my career. I am a big guitar and music lover; playing and recording in working bands is something I've been doing for most of my adult life. Because of my extensive Top 40 background, I can play and teach most of the popular music styles. I can teach acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and electric bass. Classic Rock is my specialty!

My focus and goal as an instructor is to get the student playing and enjoying the music they like as quickly as possible. I have many ways of achieving this and it's very important to me that the student has fun learning as we proceed. I enjoy teaching beginners from 7 to 70 years old and as a father myself, I work well with kids and adults. Whether the student is an absolute beginner or a skilled player, I'm confident that I can get the beginner up and playing or the existing player to add to their skills.

I studied Music Theory and Composition with Delbert Bump at Solano College for two years and I understand the fundamentals of music very well. If a student wishes to learn note reading and theory, I can help them get that going. I like to stress the basics but I also find it important to teach all students fun songs in the styles they like. Once a certain level of ability is reached I will teach those students incredible guitar songs, new or old, note for note. I'm also a music gear lover, so I can offer plenty of pointers on equipment purchases and upgrades.

New beginners will learn basic finger exercises, simple and fun easy tunes, important music scales, tuning skills and basic chords as quickly as possible. I will also highly recommend basic note reading ability and we'll work out of the Hal Leonard guitar method books to start out. As soon as possible we can begin to learn the music the student prefers and chooses. I have a fully loaded studio with amps, lots of music, and plenty of ways to listen back to the music being studied. Anyone can learn to play the guitar if they put forth the effort. I can help!
